Care and Maintenance
Although our products are among the toughest and most durable on the market, they do need regular cleaning to keep them looking and functioning at their best.
Blind Maintenance
Open your blinds (or close them – depending on what type of blinds you have) to get as much access to the slats as you can. If your blinds have slats that can be removed from their tracks, then remove the slats and set them aside in an open area for easier cleaning.
Wipe each slat gently but thoroughly to remove any traces of dust and debris. Use a soft, non-abrasive cloth to prevent scratching the surface. You can also use the brush accessory of your vacuum cleaner to remove dust quickly.
If there are any light stains or stubborn debris, clean the slats with water, a cleaning solution, or damp cloth – whatever is appropriate for your blinds. Make sure to wipe them dry immediately after to prevent damage or warping.
Vacuum the wall around your blinds and the floor below to better prevent dust from collecting.
Care and Maintenance Tips
Here are some things to remember about cleaning your blinds and curtains that can help you save time and money:
A quick check and dusting every week can do more for your blinds and curtains than a thorough clean once a year. Regular maintenance will also let you catch any stains or issues early on before they get worse.
Most blinds only require regular dusting to keep clean and maintain their condition. Many curtains will also do with a gentle wash and dry.
These solutions could damage or stain the materials of your blinds and curtains. If you decide to use special chemicals or cleaning solutions, then we recommend testing it out first on a small area to make sure that it won’t damage the material.
Modify the Process for Each Type of Blind
Although the cleaning process above applies to all blinds, you will need to modify it to match the material of your blinds.
If you use water or soapy water to wipe over your timber blinds, make sure that you wipe them dry immediately after. This will help prevent any warping on the slats. When it comes to timber blinds, the less water you use, the better. You can use a lightly dampened cloth if necessary, but never allow the slats to be soaked in water or other liquids.
Aluminium blinds can withstand moisture, so you can use water and soap/detergent if necessary.
Like aluminium blinds, PVC blinds can withstand a higher level of exposure to water and liquid cleaning solutions. Just make sure that you wipe them dry immediately after to prevent warping.
You can use water and soap to spot clean stains on your fabric blinds – but always err on the side of caution. Use as little soap and water as possible to remove stains, and always test it on a small area first before applying it to other sections.
